LUWEX YELLOW WEDGE PADS 5 11/16" (144MM)
Technical Information

The LUWEX™Full Pad™

Advantages:
Made of an excellent shock absorbing material.
Must be used with a flexible hoof packing material. Provides healthy support for the frog, increasing circulation and stimulating hoof growth from the coronary band.
The mesh, combined with a flexible hoof packing material, allows heels to expand together with the pad, maintaining the natural hoof mechanism and preventing crushed heels.
Easy-to-work-with mesh allows the farrier to see the packing material as it is injected, assuring even coverage. Ventilation allows packing material to dry quickly.
Mesh is removable and the hoof mechanism is still maintained by the Luwex rim pad after mesh is removed (see advantages of Luwex pads). You can remove the mesh without taking the shoe off - simply heat a trimming knife slightly and cut out the mesh.
Ideal for therapeutic shoeing:
Choose from regular with no degree or orthopedic with built-in degree (2° ).
Allows farrier to control expansion by making vertical cuts in the mesh in the heel area, allowing for more heel expansion when needed.
Part of the mesh can be cut out to protect part of the sole while leaving other parts open (for foundered horses or abscesses).
Very easy to cut, rasp and trim. It is not necessary to use a pad cutter. You can use a hoof knife, nipper, rasp or file to shape the pad before and/or after nailing.
Developed together with Dieter Krohnert, Master Farrier of the Gold Medal German Olympic Team. Used on hundreds of top level performance and Olympic horses, including Jumpers, Hunters, Dressage, Racing, Eventing, Endurance and others.
The pad is resettable up to three times
Available in three sizes. The pad is see-through, making it easy to fit.

Notes on the Luwex Full Pad

Good for any orthopedic problem, including broken bones in the horse’s leg or foot. It gives excellent support and is ideal for sore tendons because it absorbs concussion, gives support and makes it easier for the horse to walk.
Unlike other full pads, the Luwex Full pad gives the correct support to the frog, immediately after the horse is shod.

Full Pad Instructions

1. Trim the hoof as you normally would.

2. Fit the shoe and choose the right sized pad.

3. The printed side of the pad is the side that rests against the hoof (this is the side with the stoppers).
Make sure that the hoof wall rests on the solid part of pad and not on the mesh. The frog should rest above the mesh.

4. The stoppers should be trimmed according to the shape of the bar so as not to put pressure on the sole. Because the full pad can also become a rim pad if the mesh is removed with nippers or with a hoof knife that has been heated, the stoppers should not be completely removed unless you are sure that the pad will remain a full pad.

5. Nail the shoe with the pad together. The pad is see-through, making it easy to fit. Do not rivet the pad to the shoe in the heel area. (you can rivet temporarily during the nailing process to hold the pad in place, but make sure you remove the rivets after nailing).
Rasp outside remains off, or cut with nippers.

Since the full pad must be used with packing material, we recommend that a hard yet flexible like packing be used. TFP stocks three brands of this material including the new Luwex special lightweight silicone. You may press down on the mesh after injection to squeeze out any excess and then seal with two small pieces of duct tape until the packing dries.
